Publisher Description

Our physical world is embedded in a geometric environment. Plane geometry has many amazing wonders beyond those that are briefly touched on at school. The circle, one of the basic aspects of geometry, has a plethora of unexpected curiosities, which the authors present in an easily understandable fashion requiring nothing more than the very basics of school geometry to appreciate these curiosities and their justifications or proofs.

The book is intended to be widely appreciated by a general readership, whose love for geometry should be greatly enhanced through exploring these many unexpected relationships. Geometric Gems is also suitable for mathematics teachers, to enhance the education of their students with these highly motivating circle properties.

Previously, he was Executive Director for Internationalization and Funded Programs at Long Island University, New York. This was preceded by 5 years as Dean of the School of Education and Professor of Mathematics Education at Mercy University, New York. Before that, he was tenured for 40 years at The City College of the City University of New York, at which he is now Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Education and Dean Emeritus of the School of Education. He is the author and co-author of more than 80 mathematics books for teachers, secondary and elementary school students, and a general readership. Dr Posamentier is also a frequent commentator in newspapers and journals on topics related to education.Robert Geretschläger is currently a geometry lecturer in teacher education at the University of Graz, Austria. He was previously a teacher of mathematics and geometry, retiring from his teaching position at Bundesrealgymnasium Keplerstraße in Graz, Austria, in 2022, after working there for nearly 40 years. He has been the leader of the Austrian team at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) since 2007. He is president of two societies: the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions (WFNMC) and the Austrian Mathematical Kangaroo organisation. He is also a board member of AKSF (Association Kangourou sans Frontières). Robert has published many books on the geometry of origami, mathematical competitions, and popular geometry.
