Publisher Description
70 years have passed, but the fact that a Holocaust was possible will always shape the identity of Germans. How will the next generation of Germans cope with the problems that World War II and the Holocaust left them with? Yellowed images have been handed down, memories remain, a new beginning is attempted. The text describes the post-traumatic processing of recent history. It is hardly about the concrete historical event, but much more about the after-effects that have become embedded in the consciousness of those born later.
Here, 16 years after the world premiere at the Gallus Theater Frankfurt, Entire3 Berlin presents the cross-media books "Deutsches Epitaph I und II" in a version that could not even be imagined when the work began in 2004 and which can be regarded as a prototype of an innovative book book format , which in the video version allows a complex reception of the text on the three levels of text, image and music.
The two books contain an introductory video and 20 videos by Jörg Franzmann, films that process texts from the 7th chapter of the novel "City of Hieronymos" by Adelheid Seltmann. They were recorded in English by Paul F. Cowlan over the electronic music on the CD "Heroin", arranged by Stephan Mathieu.
An afterword explains the concept of the project.
