When a perfect new love is shattered, two hearts will do anything to pick up the pieces. In this sizzling novel from the USA Today bestselling author of Stone Walls, irresistible heat leads to sensual thrills—and a secret that changes everything.
A real hero can protect and serve, but a true hero knows how to love.
Two years ago, Nick Farley was undercover as a bartender in Chicago. The tough-as-steel FBI agent was working all the angles to build a case against a local crime syndicate, but even his intense focus was no match for the sight of Angela Cavello’s plump pink lips pulling on her drink. All Nick got was one night—the longest, hottest, sweetest night of his life. It could have been the beginning of something real. Instead, she walked away—and Nick watched her go.
Angela has made some mistakes in her life, but Nick was never one of them. Nor was the baby boy he doesn’t know about. But Angela has been running from a stalker for so long that she’s forgotten how to feel safe. So when Nick suddenly reappears in her life, Angela faces a moment of truth. She wants to trust him and reveal her secrets—her life and the life of their son may depend on it—but first she needs to know that Nick can handle her past, and promise the one thing she most craves: a future together.

Slow start, dramatic finish
Nick Farley lives and breathes FBI; it isn’t just his career, its his whole world - until smart and sexy Angela Cavallo walks into his undercover location and blows his mind. Still, a stalker boyfriend (hers) and a relocation/promotion (his) begin a chain-reaction derailment of their romance. The tale of their reunion is strange, suspenseful, and steamy. It takes awhile to get things moving in this romantic thriller, but the bang-up ending is worth it. Great characters, an involved and well crafted plot, steamy sex scenes and an HEA ending - great stuff!
love holds on
The instant attraction between Angela and Nick grabbed me just as instantly. The back and forth of their feelings and their separation pulled at my heart. I wanted everything to work out. As things are revealed, even the little surprise, I rooted for their HEA. I recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
A story with passion is the best way I can describe Nick and Angela's story. This is the first book I've read by Ms Madden and I have to say...I want more!
I found the premise of switching between the past and present...after the first two years...very engaging, providing the reader the characters' backstory in a creative format. The author's characters are well developed, multidimensional, with tons of personality and heart. Nick is the ultimate alpha hero without being overbearing. He reeks masculinity with charm...driven by his career as a FBI agent...driven by his heart after meeting and falling in love with Angela. And then there is his son Nicholas...there is nothing sexier than a father holding his child.
The secondary characters of Eve and Jase are absolutely hilarious...and could have their own story! The author also did a fine job of providing some of the backstory of the first book in the series, with those characters bleeding very nicely into this one.
I definitely look forward to continuing with the series as it unfolds...perhaps David's story is next?
