A GEM OF A READ - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

BOOKVIRAL REVIEW Posted March 29, 2021.

Vibrant and fun, GODS OF SOUND: THE PERILOUS PATH OF CAMERON FOSTER marks a genre debut for Schaffer and one he’s pulled off rather well. A full-on YA fantasy adventure, Schaffer spins his yarn in truly engaging prose, his plot thrilling, imaginative and wholly convincing in its execution with plenty of unexpected twists and turns along the way as we are introduced to the likes of Flipper, Viper, Pluto, the leather-clad Senza and the enigmatic Z3. Ostensibly a story about friendship, his characters are well observed and notably more endearing for their flaws which Schaffer captures in adriot dialgoue and well-crafted personas, each one evolving and changing as their interaction evolves. The suspension of disbelief may well be a requisite, but young Cameron always feels real as he attempts to unravel the mystery in which he finds himself embroiled. And the idea of guitar chords and their sonds being used as weapons is both clever and highly original whlst allowing for a little levity along the way, But there is a serious undertone to Schaffer’s novel too as he delves into the perplexing subject of bullying. It isn't an easy subject to write about but Schaffer’s non-prescriptive approach to incorporating the subject into his narrative means he reaches readers on an emotional level which many non-fictional books on bullying fail to do. A gem of a read that not only entertains but is insightful and encourages much in the way of reflection, GODS OF SOUND: THE PERILOUS PATH OF CAMERON FOSTER is sure to find many eager readers and is highly recommended!
