Publisher Description
In the latest thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, homicide detective Eve Dallas investigates a murder with a mysterious motive—and a terrifying weapon.
Pediatrician Kent Abner received the package on a beautiful April morning. Inside was a cheap trinket, a golden egg that could be opened into two halves. When he pried it apart, highly toxic airborne fumes entered his body—and killed him.
After Eve Dallas calls the hazmat team—and undergoes testing to reassure both her and her husband that she hasn’t been exposed—it’s time to look into Dr. Abner’s past and relationships. Not every victim Eve encounters is an angel, but it seems that Abner came pretty close—though he did ruffle some feathers over the years by taking stands for the weak and defenseless. While the lab tries to identify the deadly toxin, Eve hunts for the sender. But when someone else dies in the same grisly manner, it becomes clear that she’s dealing with either a madman—or someone who has a hidden and elusive connection to both victims.
"The 50th book proves this series truly is the gold standard.” — Associated Press
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Digging up the messy details of a murder case is usually the toughest part of Detective Eve Dallas’ job—but investigations are even harder when it seems like the victim had no enemies. It’s 2061, and a pediatrician has died after receiving a mysterious package. Everyone seems to have adored the kindhearted physician, making it nearly impossible to find someone with a motive. But another murder with the same MO leads Dallas to a private school, where she soon discovers the faculty has more than a few things to hide. Each of Robb’s In Death books stands on its own, but this perfectly paced futuristic mystery made us want to devour the whole series.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Set in New York City in 2061, bestseller Robb's capable 50th In Death police procedural (after 2019's Vendetta in Death) pits Lt. Eve Dallas against a particularly callous and ingenious assassin. One day, pediatrician Kent Abner receives a mysterious golden egg in the mail. When he opens the lid, the egg emits a deadly toxin that kills him. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, the victim was well liked in his West Village neighborhood. After questioning Abner's work colleagues and relatives, Eve and her stalwart partner, Det. Delia Peabody, are unable to establish a motive or a viable suspect. However, when book club host Elise Duran is killed in an identical manner, Eve notices a link both the victims' spouses worked at the same private school. Dogged investigative work and a little assistance from her billionaire husband, Roarke, help strong, shrewd, reliable Eve bring the heinous killer to justice. The gripping plot builds to a dramatic finale. Robb shows no sign of losing steam. 750,000 announced first printing.

Amazing
Amazing as always!
Hard pass…this series has really taken a dive!
The earlier books were much better written. I could barely finish this one.
Another Great “Death” Book
Interesting, intriguing, well documented story. The usual little sexy parts, ups and downs investigation, and a great final chapter where Eve gets her killer to admit what he’s done. Always love J D Robbs endings.
