Publisher Description
From the author of the critically acclaimed Archie Sheridan and Gretchen Lowell thrillers, here is a heart-stopping ride that Cheryl Strayed (author of #1 New York Times bestseller Wild) called “deeply intelligent and grippingly suspenseful…a wickedly brilliant masterpiece.”
Kick Lannigan has taught herself to be dangerous. She can pick any lock, fire any weapon, throw any knife, and aim a punch at her opponent’s trachea. She has also taught herself to be safe. So when enigmatic John Bishop shows up asking her to help him rescue missing kids, Kick has every reason to be wary. He appears to have access to limitless money, high-level contacts, and details of Kick’s background long kept sealed by the court. Yet everything he tells her about himself seems to be a lie.
Headstrong by nature, suspicious by circumstance, and a smart-ass by self-determination, Kick can’t help but see the writing on the wall: together, she and Bishop could make an unstoppable team, willing to do whatever it takes—legal or not—to see justice served…if they don’t kill each other first. For Kick, whose interest in child abduction is deeply personal, it’s a gamble worth taking.
Critically acclaimed as “excruciating…compelling” (Booklist, starred review) and “a propulsive new thriller” (People), One Kick is an engrossing, entertaining new novel you won’t want to miss.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Gone is less gory than American author Chelsea Cain’s previous bestsellers Heartsick and Evil at Heart, but it’s just as dark and thrilling. After the FBI release her from a horrific situation, Kit Lannigan returns to her home as a confused and vulnerable child. Now an adult, “Kick” has dedicated her life to ensuring that she’ll never be a victim again. But when the weapons and martial arts expert is pulled into a clandestine operation to locate missing children, her past threatens to crush her. From the very first page, Cain’s relentless thriller—the first in a series—makes your heart beat double-time.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Bestseller Cain (Let Me Go) introduces a truly compelling new heroine, Kit "Kick" Lannigan, in this stellar first in a new thriller series. Kick made national headlines when she was kidnapped at age six and again when the FBI rescued her five years later. But being in captivity, even with a relatively benevolent kidnapper, took its emotional toll, and the now 21-year-old Kick, who lives in Portland, Ore., is obsessed with child abductions. In particular, the disappearance of Adam Rice and Mia Turner piques her interest and triggers her guilt for the role she once played in ensuring the anonymity of a vast ring of child pornographers. When the mysterious John Bishop, a former arms dealer turned private security man, asks her to help find Adam and Mia, Kick knows she can't say no. Kick has little to go on, except her ability to see the situation through the eyes of the children. Readers will want to see a lot more of the feisty Kick.

One Kick
Fantastic. If you liked her other books, you will love this. Kick is awesome! Can't wait for the next installment! I highly recommend One Kick!
One Kick
I enjoyed it but not nearly as much as the Gretchen and Archie books. It wasn't as creepy and the characters seemed forced. Much too simple for this author. She's better than a this.
