Publisher Description
A slow burn, friends to lovers, military romance from USA Today bestselling author Prescott Lane
All the best love stories are tragic. Ours is no different.
Lennon is the woman who should have always been mine. The one that I let slip through my fingers time and time again. I was young, stupid, and arrogant enough to think love would wait.
Being in the Marines has taught me patience. The enemy never strikes when you expect it. Love is the same way.
And falling in love with your best friend requires a special type of patience.
So when tragedy strikes, the only thing I can do is be what I've always been to her — her best friend.
I've learned everything has a cost — even love. Lennon has paid dearly.
But I'm not about to let tragedy steal our happily ever after.

One of my favorite books of 2022
Hands down, this was one of the best books I’ve read this year. It definitely pulled at my heartstrings while also pulling me in two different directions at times.
Lennon and Duke were perfectly imperfect. For best friends, their lack of communication about their real feelings for each other is of course the hallmark of the friends to lovers trope…which I adore. I’m sure readers took sides throughout the book, as did I.
I was frustrated by Duke at the beginning, but I get that not all teen boys/ young men grasp their emotions and can share them. I was mad at Lennon, though, in the second half of the book. I felt she let her values be compromised by someone who didn’t deserve it, especially as she was, in my mind, being manipulated. I’m trying to explain how their actions made me feel without spoliers…hard to do!
Regardless, I loved this book. The characters were engaging, the dialogue was honest and emotional and the storyline itself was fresh and believable. Ms. Lane deserves outdid herself with this book.
