Gran Canaria

Getting out into the countryside, you leave all traces of tourism behind. Gran Canaria is not Playa del Inglés, or Puerto Rico, or Las Canteras. Hire a car or hop on a local bus, and you'll taste the real flavours of the island, as you scale the peaks, cross the barrancos and pass through the small and lonely hamlets. This will cost you a bit of time and energy, but you will be well rewarded.

Ramblers and ardent trekkers can chose from a large selection of graded walks. But if you¹re happiest with wheels under you, the car tours (and their highly-recommended detours) will keep you engrossed for days especially if you stretch your legs to visit any of the easily-accessible picnic spots.
