"The most profound and accomplished American novel since the end of World War II." —The New Republic
“A screaming comes across the sky. . .” A few months after the Germans’ secret V-2 rocket bombs begin falling on London, British Intelligence discovers that a map of the city pinpointing the sexual conquests of one Lieutenant Tyrone Slothrop, U.S. Army, corresponds identically to a map showing the V-2 impact sites. The implications of this discovery will launch Slothrop on an amazing journey across war-torn Europe, fleeing an international cabal of military-industrial superpowers, in search of the mysterious Rocket 00000.
Gravity's Rainbow is a postmodern epic, a work as exhaustively significant to the second half of the twentieth century as Joyce's Ulysses was to the first. Its sprawling, encyclopedic narrative and penetrating analysis of the impact of technology on society make it an intellectual tour de force.

Funny, extraordinarily brilliant and a bit difficult
Not an easy book, but its pleasures are profound. Gravity's Rainbow is a tale told by a genius, signifying everything about the insane quest for control at the heart of the 20th century. And it's funny. Really funny. And detailed and dense and exquisitely written. And filled to the brim with sly puns and looney tunes. There are moments reading this book where I felt honored to be a member of the same species as its creator. It's one of the most outlandish stories ever told, spun by the finest storyteller you'll never know. But it's not for the faint of brain.
Absolute Genius
Very complex. Very funny. Absolute genius.
Truly a novel to revisit endlessly
I could read this in its entirety 10 more times and discover something new on the 11th, and that’s a promise. Ignore the simpletons that advise you to ignore this one. This book will make you a better reader if you let it, and Pynchon is one of the modern geniuses. Read it once without a guide, familiarize yourself with the text and get to the end even if you don’t get it, because you WILL not get it. Then re read it post haste and pick any of the great readers guides to accompany your second read. My physical copy of this book has so many sticky tabs and notes in it that I got the digital to have a cleaner experience . This is one of the greatest novels of all time but I would recommend to those that have zero familiarity with Eastern mystical traditions , qabala or the tarot to explore those things at a basic level first. The amount of research that went into this novel is staggering.
