Interesting and original romance
This book was a bit different from my usual romances and not exactly what I expected. First, let me say as an overall enjoyable reading experience, this book was that for sure. What kept me from rating five stars was the bit of confusion I experienced throughout the book. This book has been mentioned as a standalone but I truly believe had I read book one first, I would have been able to follow along better. Because I didn't read the first in the series I wasn't aware of a continuing plot. If I had known, I would have definitely read that first and no doubt rated this book a five.
That said, I adored most of the characters. I definitely thought the premise was original and not at all predictable. Grim and Bear It is filled with mystery and adventure. There are high emotions, some angst and a second chance romance all happening during a time of criminal activity going on in this fictitious and incredibly imaginative world.
Both Jake and Poppy, the main protagonists, were likable and I couldn't help but root for them; especially after learning of their history. The secondary characters were great additions to the story and brought quite a bit of insight to some of the confusion I was having regarding those same characters from the previous book.
There is danger and mystery as well as some humor to help balance any dark elements. I am definitely going to go back and read the first book so I'll be ready when book three is released. I have a couple of suspicions regarding that book and I can't wait to see if I'm correct.
All in all an entertaining read. While I received an advanced reading copy of Grim and Bear It, this is my honest and unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
The Supernatural Romance/Action Book of Your Dreams
Heather has done it again; Grim and Bear It will pull you in from the first page and keep you engaged until the very end. Poppy and Jake’s story is sweet, a little spicy, and will tug at your heart strings for sure. Heather has created a world and characters that feel both fresh and familiar all at once and integrates the supernatural elements in such a way that it isn’t just some cheesy trope but a believable and intriguing world all its own. This is a quick read for those that are a fan of romance and mystery and it’s highly probable that you won’t be able to put the book down until you find out just how Jake and Poppy’s story turns out. If you’re looking for a feel good, spine tingling romantic mystery jam packed full of action featuring a hero using a mobility aid and Bi/Pan romance then friends this is your ticket. You won’t regret reading this and it’s quite possible that this latest book from Heather will become a favorite, expect to be left wanting more.
