wonderful retelling
Retelling of our 3 fairytale stories. The characters have different names and they reside in Grimm Academy. This is my first book I read from the series. It is easy to read and captivating. These are sweet, clean romances. I was fascinated how the curses were presented and portrayed. They were not what I expected. The brilliant endings of each story were not as I expected.
I recommend reading this enchanting book.

Grimm Academy Volume 5: Final 3
Grimm Academy Volume 5 concludes the Academy series with Song of Seas, a Little Mermaid retelling; Roses of Regret, a Snow White/Rose Red retelling (which I really didn’t see but still liked the story) and Princess of Petals, a Beauty and the Beast retelling. Where this boxset concludes the traditional Academy series, the next series premiers The Princess Competition that is a spin-off. I was fortunate to read each story individually and write my review per book. This volume is great in that you have the final three books to finish this ‘feel good’ saga. Plus you do not have to keep track of what story is next or if the series is in order.

Fantastic trio
Song of Seas book 13:
Matilda’s story and a retelling of The Little Mermaid.
Sweet, shy, kind Mati ostracized for what she was born as a mer. Yet she and Gerda who you may recall from Frosts and Fears bond over their isolation and the prophecies hanging over their heads. My experience with this story is from the Disney movie so not counting on that for complete authenticity to the original tale. However I think this stands apart as it’s own entity even if the characters are based on others. Different from her family, refusing to be cowed by an overbearing mother Mati enjoys both her forms and the strengths that each posses. While falling in love is what triggers the prophecy she doesn’t hesitate to help a young man who’s drowning who then proceeds to dominate her thoughts.
I loved this story. Very sweet romance. Light and happy read. A definite 5 stars even if I miss the singing crab lol.
Roses of Regret book 14:
Rose’s story and a retelling of Snow White & Rose Red.
If you’re expecting a variation of the Disney classic this is not that story. There is a story in the series based on that tale Mirrors and Magic. I was a little confused at the similarity with the names as well.
You may recognize Rose and Blanche from a prior book but here they tell their own story. They have a very vague prophecy about them that involves a bear wanting shelter, a dwarf that will want to steal the bear’s treasure. They’ve know it all their lives but it’s still confusing to figure out what it really means. Rose who is the primary character here figures the prophecy has begun when the boy she likes has a herald of a bear on his jousting shield. Then we proceed into a tangled web of titles, rude nobles aka the dwarf and the twins trying to avoid the fate that could befall them.
An interesting story to be sure but a bit confusing if you think about the abstract and vague details of the prophecy. Not my favorite in the series but still enjoyable nonetheless.
Princess of Petals book 15:
Astrid’s story and a retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
Astrid is a daughter of a merchant and much to her surprise has been offered a spot at Grimm Academy. Since she has a prophecy about her she is excited to go to the school famous for students avoiding them. She also is thrilled to be going to such a fine academy where she can get a top notch education. Unfortunately her parents only agree because they want her to find a wealthy noble to marry so they can have wealth and a title. Astrid sees a way around this when the Bellpoint competition is announced. The winner becomes heir to a kingdom if she wins she can court whoever she wants ie the sweet and handsome farmer’s son she’s been spending time with and they’ll be nothing her parents can do. But tick tock the countdown on her and Conan’s prophecies has started. Will they be able to figure out how to avoid their fates or will evil magic overcome them?
Super fun read! Lots of action packed into a smaller package. Curses, wicked sisters, overbearing self centered parents, faries and so much more. A fantastic read!!.
