Jacob Grimm was born on January 4, 1785, whereas his brother Wilhelm Grimm was born on February 24, 1786, both of them born in Hanau, Germany. They studied German folklore and oral traditions and published their collection of stories known as Grimm’s Fairy Tales. They and their writings were influenced by German Romanticism and focused on the village oral storytelling.
Wilhelm Grimm died first, on December 16, 1859 and Jacob died four years later, on September 20, 1863. Both them died in Berlin, Germany.
