Hamlet

Shakespeare's longest play, Hamlet is widely considered to be one of the most influential tragedies in all of literature. One of the most popular plays during the playwright's lifetime, Hamlet is still one of Shakespeare's most performed dramas. The play has also been described as "the world's most filmed story" after Cinderella. The story of Prince Hamlet, the death of his father and the revenge on his uncle (now King) Claudius, Hamlet is most remembered for the famous soliloquy beginning: "To be or not to be. That is the question." Today, the play is continually analyzed through psychoanalytic lenses. More recently, feminist scholars have taken interests in the roles of Ophelia, Hamlet's love interest, and Gertrude, his mother.
