After an embarrassing end to her teenage crush, grey-hat hacker Alexa Stone vowed to spend the rest of her life avoiding Nolan de Luca. Reliving the memory in her nightmares is quite bad enough without seeing him in person. But when her meddling bestie volunteers her to fix a tiny ransomware issue with Nolan’s laptop, Alexa can’t say no.
Nolan’s spent the past decade regretting the way he walked out on Alexa. Yes, okay, he was a murder suspect and she was a minor who lied about her age, but he should still have handled the situation better. Now she’s coming to California, to the vineyard where he sought refuge after the death of their former roommate, and he wants a do-over.
But nothing’s ever simple. Alexa isn’t impressed when Nolan becomes an accidental porn star, and then there’s the interior designer determined to give his entire life a makeover. Which, being honest, it probably needs, but complications lead to mistakes. Mistakes that threaten his business and more.
Alexa doesn’t do complications, or people, or the great outdoors. So why does she keep returning to Gold Country?
Hard Code is a standalone romantic suspense novel with a neurospicy heroine, an uptight hero, plenty of dark humour, and a morally grey girl squad.

Vineyards, Laughter, and Intrigue
As a long-time fan of the Blackstone House series, I was eagerly anticipating the evolution of Alexa, the most elusive member of the group. In "Hard Code," she transforms from an almost ghostly presence into a fully fleshed-out character, and it is nothing short of amazing. Her role as a computer geek fits her personality perfectly, and readers will find her both intriguing and endearing.
The novel is a brilliant blend of characters from Elise Noble's previous books: the Blackstone House group of friends and the Choir female operatives. This combination results in a fast-paced and smart plot full of twists and turns. "Hard Code" surely keeps the reader engaged from start to finish with its richness and variety.
A couple of extra highlights: the book is set in a vineyard, setting a warm and captivating background to the story.
Additionally, the book is hilarious without being silly, making it smartly entertaining.
Overall, I had a fantastic time reading "Hard Code," and I can't wait to see more of these beloved characters in future books.
Blackstone Alexa
Alexa has been quietly working in the background, but she really comes through when Nolan, an old crush and friend, needs her help. As things go down at the vineyard, a bunch of interesting events start to happen. Along with the Choir, they work together to solve problems and chase justice, no matter what gets in their way.
Neurodivergent heroine is refreshing!
Loved this one! The characters are human, humane, talented, troubled, and working through some very real issues. They know there is no real justice in the world and they come as close to achieving it as they can. I especially enjoyed learning more about Alexa's neurodivergence. She's a rock solid heroine because of her uniqueness. Traits that others often viewed as odd or quirky are highlighted as powerful strengths. There are many layers to admire about this...including the very sweet love story that holds it all together.
