He carries a big stick. And he’s not afraid to use it.
On the ice, I’m Kellan Carter, powerhouse enforcer for the Charlotte Strikers. Off the ice, I’m just a regular guy. The last thing I want is to get mobbed by a bunch of groupies who are only after me for my fame and money. My ideal woman knows how to enjoy a little good, clean fun—and maybe some not-so-clean fun too. That’s the kind of girl I’d never let go.
When Kristen Robinson, the gorgeous, down-to-earth bartender I’ve been crushing on, agrees to let me take her out, I’m thrilled. We have an amazing night together, culminating in the most electrifying kiss of my life—and that’s it. Kristen tells me we can’t see each other again, but I know that kiss meant as much to her as it did to me. What I don’t know is that Kristen has a dangerous secret. . . .
I’ve proved to Kristen that she can trust me with her body and her heart. But when her past comes back to haunt her, I need to prove that she can trust me with her life. And I might have to get my hands dirty after all.

L. P. Dover is brilliant in another thrilling romance with a sexy hockey star, a southern belle who is ready to fight back and a dangerous secret. A little over a year ago, Kristen Robinson's life was ripped apart when the man she thought she loved turned out to be a cheat and a liar. More than that, he was a dangerous stalker, who terrorized her to no end. Now, given a second chance Kristen can finally breathe. She lost too much, but she is determined to start over. And that includes taking chances with a gorgeous hockey player who has been asking her out for months. At the end of the perfect date, he gives her the very best kiss of her life. Still feeling her lips tingling, she can't help but smile every time he texts or stops by to see her. The closer Kellan Carter gets to Kristen the more he falls for her. As she opens up to him, he starts to understand the horrors she's been through. But he is ready to protect her now and forever. She is his and no one will harm her ever again. When her past catches up to them, it will take everything Keelan has to save the woman he loves. Hard Stick is a fast paced, sexy romance with some pretty intense twists that will keep readers turning pages until the very last secret is revealed.
Fun, Entertaining and Suspenseful
This is a sweet, fun story with suspense and intrigue thrown into the mix to make it a satisfying read. I enjoy everything L. P. Dover writes and I love stories about hockey players, so I was excited to read this and I wasn't disappointed.
Kristen is forced to take on a new identity when she runs away from her psycho boyfriend. She is devastated when she leaves her home, job and everything else in her life behind. She is currently working as a bartender and she misses her former job as an interior designer. She is afraid if she goes back into the field she loves, her ex will be able to track her down.
Kristen works at the local bar that Kellon, a professional hockey player and his teammates frequent. Many of the guys in the team have asked Kristen out but she refuses. She isn't interested in any of the sexy hockey players, she is too caught up in all her problems to even notice them. Kellon likes the challenge of trying to get Kristen to go out with him. Once Kristen finally agrees and she gets to know Kellon, she realizes he is not the womanizer she thought he was.
I feel sorry for Kristen she has had some tough breaks and deserves some happiness. She is a nice person but afraid to get involved with Kellon because she has so many problems. I love how protective Kellon is with Kristen. He won't let anything happen to her and always puts her first. He is loyal and an all around good guy. I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters. Kallon and Kristen are good together and have a lot chemistry, they just need to work through all of Kristens problems.

A hockey romance with a twist, LP Dover delivers a slap shot win with Hard Stick…
Kellan Carter rules on the ice. Captain of the Charlotte Strikers hockey team, he knows how to handle his stick…both on and off the ice. But, Kellan is also a good guy, and a gentleman. He doesn’t take home every ice groupie that hits him up, and he lives a much more subdued life than his teammates. Kellan knows what he type of woman he wants, down to earth, sweet, fun, and sexy…everything that bartender Kristen Robinson happens to be, including drop-dead gorgeous and very hard to get. When his persistence pays off and lands him a date, he is determined to earn her trust and extend his luck beyond one encounter.
Kristen Robinson chose the wrong guy. Her sweet and innocent nature left her vulnerable to the worst type of predator…those of the heart. Her mistake forced her to leave everything behind, start her life over, and pray that her mistakes don’t follow. Afraid to make the same mistakes twice, Kristen keeps people, especially men, at a distance. She is successfully keeping the sexy hockey players frequenting the bar she tends at arms length, until Kellan Carter breaks through her defenses. He surprises her with his laid back and relaxed demeanor, and the simple, fun, and easy going time they spend together. When Kristen’s past comes back to haunt her, she has to decide if she’s going to let him in…or let him go.
I'm not a big hockey fan, but I happen to be a HUGE fan of athletes… ;) I knew I wanted to read Hard Stick when I saw the blurb and cover reveal. That cover is gorgeous…so sexy. And the blurb was sweet and unexpected for a hockey novel. I loved the characters, I cried along with Kristen…felt helpless with Kellan…and swooned with them both. They were easy to love, fun to watch, and well developed. The plot and storyline were different from your typical hockey novel, so unique in their genre. I struggled slightly with the execution of the plot, as there were times when it just seemed to easy…too predictable. That being said, there were some pretty heartbreaking and amazing twists thrown in too. Even though I felt some of it was a bit predictable, the areas that happened too fast or easy, did so with grace and talent. I did enjoy this story, and will definitely read more of Ms. Dover’s work. This was a well earned victory, for sure.
