Publisher Description
Given the current wave in the entertainment industries of anything to do with the South, gators, moonshine, girls and so on, this book takes place in the 1950s. it's about two boys growing up in the deep south raised by their Granny and trained in the swamp by a transplanted Cajun from Bayou La Batre, Alabama. Leroy, the oldest grows up entangled in a classic struggle between two different lives. One, learning to run a large farming empire and the other being a more lucrative and darker side of the family's history. The one seeped in the illegal manufacturing of moonshine and the illegal importing of rum from countries strictly forbidden to engage in commerce with the United States. Leroy experienced all the joys and pains of young manhood and learning the cost involved in putting family above all else.
About the Author
When I wrote this book, it was attempt to connect the dots of my childhood, which if successful, would maybe give me answer's to questions about my adulthood. From all outwardly appearances my family was a normal family. Father-Mother, three kids- two dogs, and every summer vacation that ended up in the same place, back to our roots in the deep south . seeing Grand parents, Ants, Uncles, first, second and even third cousin. Spending 3 - 4 days being Intravenously feed Fried Chicken , Mashed Potatoes, green beans and cornbread. Once we have been fully sedated repeating that ritual everyday until it was time to take that 16 hour ride back north. The whole way talking about how we hated GA and how poor our distant relative were compared to living on a Navy E6 or E7 pay grade. We were doing quit well, compared the them.
Sounds pretty normal i guess, except for me. I loved the south and everything that so identifies with it. I would beg to go back during the summer months to work on my uncle"s farms. in the evening we would seat out on the front porch and i would listen to tall tells about Way cross Ga, and the characters who would wonder the back swamps of the Okefenokee, which is a Creek Indian word meaning shaking waters. I was young enough back then to believe ever word, but as i got older, i new that some of it was not true. When i asked about certain events everyone would sware they were true. So i thought i would bring them to life on pages. As Bio's go, i have never written a book or for that matter thought i would or could. what i do have are hundreds of stories that have been told to me and i have keep them hidden deep within me. When i get lonely or depressed i would reach back through the cobwebs of my mind and pull out one of these tales and just marvel at how much i thoroughly enjoyed them. They would always make me laugh or sometime even cry. So i thought i would try and share them with you. My pray is that you find joy in the words of this book and when you need a break from the stress's of life , immerse yourself in the pages of Harvest Moons. The first book in the "Shaking water series".
