Publisher Description

An alien game show. A deadly challenge. The fate of the world is on Astra's shoulders.

Twenty-five-year-old Astra Ching has never sought the spotlight. So when a mysterious black orb appears with a challenge for Earth and selects her to compete in its strange--and very public--game, she's not pleased to find herself a sudden superstar.

The rules are bewildering, and there are no second chances for losers. Yet while Astra fights to stay alive and save the world from imminent destruction, the people of Earth are more interested in tabloids and gossip, like whether or not she's engaging in a scandalous love affair with a fellow contestant . . . or the mysterious alien known only as Eleven.

In her struggle to survive, Astra forms tentative alliances with a handful of trustworthy friends. But as the global gossip seeps into the game and contestants are eliminated with each round, Astra's celebrity threatens to become infamy and the line between friend and foe blurs.

Will she emerge from the arena a hero, or just another headline?

Love, love, love!

Thank you so much to JD Edwin for the review copy of this book! I have to say as someone who does not read much science fiction, I was enamored with this novel.

The main character for this book, Donna Astra Ching who mainly goes by Astra, is going about her day to day life as a menacing orb is floating in the sky is choosing random people to compete in a widely broadcasted game show for survival. When Astra is chosen she has to discern who would as an ally and who would like to do whatever it taken to win including sabotaging others.

I had assumed this was going to be a lot like The Hunger Games when it came to entering the arena however as the title suggests it is all about the mind. In using creative as a power I believe it gave the survival scenes something completely different that no one has done before. I also quite enjoyed the character development of the characters you least expected as well as the stories of the past contestants.

I greatly appreciated the romance being so minimal/light as well, there are so many things going on at points that also trying to embed a romance aspect in it would’ve ruined it.
