Most Concepts Well Thought Out Except for One Fundamental Flaw
Atheism isn’t a “neuroses”. That’s really all I need to write for this review.
Shame is a topic that isn’t really talked about in Western society, and when I came across this book I was delighted by its introduction and premise. I read a sample and it explained shame in a fairly balanced way, until it came to the spiritual/religious portions.
Theology has its place in modern studies but it shouldn’t be a foundation of any scientific argument. This book isn’t based on scientific research, even though it is sprinkled with a tantalizing micro-dose of psychology, misleading the reader in the beginning.
It is a shame because I think the fundamental ideas of this book has merit. But spirituality and religion as the final end-all be-all answer for shame is nowhere near scientific or researched or proven. This is an indulgent fluff piece by a spiritualist trying to masquerade as a mental health expert.
Btw I don’t care that this was written in 1988. The scientific method existed in the 80’s too.
