Health Care 911

The call comes in, the EMS crew responds, and for the 10th, 12th, or 20th time, the middle-aged man is on his way from the streets to the emergency room. This is the world of the frequent user of the emergency medical system. It costs taxpayers millions, and does little to improve the health of a population in dire need. This story explores the disconnect between prevention and care that has increased burdens on the system and costs to the public.
