The Man She Fears Is Her Only Chance For Survival . . .
All Christina Astle wants is to reach Oregon before her baby is born, but the wagon train is attacked, and her husband killed, stranding her in a mountain labyrinth. Raised in the East, within civilization's embrace, survival is not a skill she's learned. Neither is evading the lone warrior dogging her trail.
Disgusted by the greed and cruelty of men like his white father, Towan has turned to the simpler existence of his mother's tribal people. He is not prepared for the fiery woman who threatens to upturn his entire life ... and his heart.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Set in 1859 along the Oregon Trail, this exciting tale from Couch (Scarlet Coat) centers on a stranded, pregnant settler who is rescued by a Native American. Christina Astle is lagging behind a wagon train headed to Oregon from Cincinnati when the caravan is attacked, leaving Christina alone and her husband dead. Towan, a Shoshone tribesman with a white father, follows Christina as she flees, only revealing himself just before she eats a potentially poisonous foraged berry. After Towan helps Christina deliver her baby in a cave, the two grow closer as Towan begins to read the Bible Christina shares with him and the two are cared for by Towan's mother in his home village. When they come across two trappers, Christina decides to take their offer of transportation to Fort Bridger. But when they turn out to have ulterior motives, she is lucky Towan has been tracking them. Christina's experience with the trappers leaves her convinced her husband was killed by settlers pretending to be natives and must decide if she wants to return to Ohio or stay with Towan. Readers of inspirational historicals will enjoy Couch's exhilarating frontier tale.

Loved this book!
I love the complexities of the main characters in this book. They each must overcome their own struggles and perceptions to find their way to completeness.
Towan is torn between two worlds, the one of the father he hates, and the one he now embraces. With the unexpected arrival of a woman who challenges everything that he has become, and stirs up things best forgotten, will faith or a need for revenge win out?
Christina is thrown into an unknown world with a man she’s been told she should fear. With a newborn baby to protect, and no way to survive on her own, can she trust this man of two worlds? Will her preconceived ideas overshadow the goodness she sees in him, or will his character win her heart?
This is a well written historical novel filled with emotion, faith and the personal journey to love.
This book was given to me courtesy of Pelican Book Group and this is my honest review.
