How does one find the courage to replace the fear of impending death with peace, hope, and thanksgiving for life? Vicki Rhoades discovered the answer to this question in the spring of 1994. She lay in the hospital dying as her heart gradually failed. Only the miracle of a heart transplant could save her. Vicki and her husband, Dusty, approached her life threatening illness from two different perspectives: hers as a wife and mother dealing with her own mortality; and his as a husband using the coping strategies of a military aviator.
