Heat Transfer Exchangers

During my Chemical Engineering apprenticeship at Gerard Brothers Refinery in Nottingham I had first hand experience of how heat exchangers can go wrong. On the tube side excess corrosion led to scale forming and contaminating the product.
It was a pain to pull the tubes as there was no release mechanism built in. So, we had to cut out the flanges. I never forgot that, or the amount of noise generated by fin fan coolers offshore and onshore. We limited access even when wearing ear defenders.
