After defeating a Demonic Deity and leading Rohzenheim to victory, the No-life Gamers now set their sights on the Rank S dungeon. Before they head to Baukis, though, Allen uses his new elven connections to arrange for the Gamers to graduate from the Academy early.
Allen then brings the gang to Krena Village to drop in on his family and introduce everyone. What’s supposed to be a simple trip, however, quickly escalates into something more. It turns out that when Keel’s family had their House restored, their lands were also returned to them—including the nest of the white dragon that has terrorized the area for centuries!
The group eventually makes their way to Baukis and reunites with Meruru with much pomp and circumstance. There, they stand together before the Tower of Tribulations, the Rank S dungeon that no one—not even Hero Helmios nor the champions of ages past—has ever cleared.
Challenges and encounters galore await the No-life Gamers where all the world’s greatest fighters gather!
Start of the “end-game dungeon” arc
A fair bit of worldbuilding here for the dwarves and their technomagic creations. We get a lot of detail on the “final” dungeon in the world, as well as a good dose of dungeon crawling. Some details on the beastmen race also turn up. Unfortunately the dwarves and beastmen, like the elves from the prior volume, are pretty generic fantasy trope versions. This volume also seems to be setting up political fallout related to the protagonist’s rapidly increasing visibility to the powers that be, which I assume will get more important in the next volume or two. There are also hints about what may happen after the demon war ends. It will be interesting to see how the world politics play out once the Big Nastybad gets trounced.
Waited for this volume on preorder
Been waiting for this for months, at first it was ok. The story at first feels like it had momentum but when you summarize what’s actually happened you’re left without much TBH.
also why are there 7 side stories?! I think that just shows what I’m talking about. 7 side stories and the main storyline barely made any significant progress. I get it this series has been slow from the start but it actually made sense in the beginning. At book 5, this can’t keep being the same.
If this ever gets put into anime form, this volume would equal maybe an episode and a half. Honestly I’m being nice because if I was the animator I’d cut all the filler and you’d really be at half an episode waiting for more significant content.
Worst one so far
I have read the previous books twice. In which I gave them 4 stars. This one just felt so rushed. It S rank dungeon is lacking, the amount of main story chapters are lacking, and the amount of side chapters is to much. This book just ends in the weirdest spot and over all was tough for me to finish, while the previous iBooks I couldn’t put down. Very disappointed, if the next is this bad I’m going to have to give up on the series.
