A Lovely Read
I first read some of Betty Neels' books when I was a twelve year old in the 1990's. I was staying with my grandmother for the summer and wanted something to read. Neels' books were charming and really made an impression on me. Little girls probably shouldn't read romance novels, but these were something special.
Flash forward twenty years. I remembered the characters and how much I loved the author's gentle heroines and lovely descriptions of post-war life, but I'd forgotten her name. It took me countless Google queries, but finally I discovered Betty Neels again.
Read this book and you'll be enchanted, too. It's a lovely little window into a time where gender roles were refreshingly solid, where manners and homemaking skills counted for something.
