Right smack, dab in the armpit of America, otherwise known as Appalachia, Charles Wayne Shelton II has raged against a lack of understanding, acceptance and resources to bring his visions and observations into this world in the form of nude art, which he refers to as "Hillbilly Chic".
“My involvement with nude photography over the past 17 years has caused me to experience incredible persecution in a community that has historically exhibited signs of being sexually repressive. Despite the ignorant attacks and slander of others I refuse to let them muzzle my creativity,” Shelton said.
Shelton began shooting nude models in 1996 and has done so in the most unusual of ways, without the use of talent agencies or fancy equipment, embracing a DIY attitude and his own resourcefulness to cultivate models, wardrobe, props, settings and anything else necessary to create images that are unique, provocative and entertaining.
