HIS DARK MATERIALS IS NOW AN HBO ORIGINAL SERIES STARRING DAFNE KEEN, RUTH WILSON, JAMES McAVOY, AND LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA!
The modern fantasy classic that Entertainment Weekly named an “All-Time Greatest Novel” and Newsweek hailed as a “Top 100 Book of All Time.” Philip Pullman takes readers to a world where humans have animal familiars and where parallel universes are within reach.
Lyra is rushing to the cold, far North, where witch clans and armored bears rule. North, where the Gobblers take the children they steal—including her friend Roger. North, where her fearsome uncle Asriel is trying to build a bridge to a parallel world.
Can one small girl make a difference in such great and terrible endeavors? This is Lyra: a savage, a schemer, a liar, and as fierce and true a champion as Roger or Asriel could want.
But what Lyra doesn't know is that to help one of them will be to betray the other...
A masterwork of storytelling and suspense, Philip Pullman's award-winning The Golden Compass is the first in the His Dark Materials series, which continues with The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The first book of Philip Pullman’s beloved His Dark Materials series introduces us to a fascinating parallel universe where every human has an animal “dæmon” and kids possess elusive qualities that scientists are eager to harness. The book’s young and scrappy heroine, Lyra, gets pulled into a plot in which kids are being kidnapped for brutal experiments, and events turn more sinister with every page. Pullman uses elements of fantasy and adventure to crystallize the thrill and pain of growing up. The Golden Compass is a must-read for fantasy fans of all ages, but the appeal of this complex, imaginative, and page-turning book goes well beyond the genre.
Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy now appears in sophisticated trade paperback editions, each title embossed within a runic emblem of antiqued gold. The backdrop of The Golden Compass: His Dark Materials, Book I sports a midnight blue map of the cosmos with the zodiacal ram at its center. The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass carry similarly intriguing cover art, and all three titles offer details not seen in the originals: in Compass and Knife, for example, Pullman's stamp-size b&w art introduces each chapter; Spyglass chapters open with literary quotes from Blake, the Bible, Dickinson and more.
Would highly recommend the audible audiobook.
Great Book Slightly Complicated for younger audiences
This book is amazing, telling the story of Lyra Bellequa. Pullman did a great job and if you liked this book I urge you to read the rest of the series. Amazing though if you want your kids to read this I would wait until their at least 11 as it has some dark and complicated scenes that may scare younger kids. Also same with the show all though be prepared it’s not exactly the same so you may say “ I don’t remember this “ and you might also say “Yep I remember this exact scene”. Hope this review was helpful 😀!
Screw da haters
I know some of you know it all’s think that the ending was terrible and it is a Narnia rip off but it is better than your life story.
