Publisher Description

Van G. Garrett explores moments in the life of bluesman Elmore "Hog" Garrett, the imagined godson of the legendary bluesman Slim Harpo. With poems that breathe life into this Southern story, Van G. Garrett's exploration into the fictionalized Elmore Garrett is both arresting and engaging, a worthy salute to one of America's authentic art forms.

HOG

Van G. Garrett skillfully uses HOG appropriately to examine, expose and celebrate the life of citizens of the "chitlin circuit." Each page is its on track and journey-giving way to the concert of the whole. I want to shake hands with HOG, who sings it like it is while loving a woman with "pig brains" who can't be satisfied. That's the blues. Therapy with rich sensory details-making me feel like I did "hear'em sang", and shake his hand.
