From an award-winning author who "writes real cowboys with heart and soul" (Carolyn Brown, New York Times bestselling author) comes an unforgettable western romance about two strangers who learn that home is where the heart is. . .
First rule of life on the run: never get attached. Nevada Sweet knows that better than anyone-it's just too dangerous to stay put. And until now, she's never wanted to. But she gets more than she bargained for when she walks into the Chestnut Creek Café looking for a job. Despite the protective wall she's built, her coworker Joseph has her imagining a life she isn't yet convinced she deserves...
While Unforgiven, New Mexico has always been home, Joseph "Fishing Eagle" King still feels like an outsider-no matter how much he tries to give back to his Navajo community. Beneath Nevada's biting wit, he glimpses a similar vulnerability. Against all odds, Joseph finds himself falling for her, and it's clear she's not as unaffected as she pretends. When her past finally catches up with her, she'll have to decide whether to keep running, or fight for what's hers.
Includes the bonus novel Wild Cowboy Ways by Carolyn Brown!
In Drake's sweet second Chestnut Creek romance (after The Last True Cowboy), a woman flees to a place to hide from the past, and instead finds a possible future. Nevada has spent her adult life running from a cartel that she accidentally stole from; she's certain they want to kill her. To protect others, she doesn't let anyone get too close to her. She temporarily holes up in her friend Carly's small town of Unforgiven, N.Mex., but knows she'll need to get on the road again soon. While working for Carly, Nevada meets Joseph, a Navajo local. Joseph also has a past that's difficult to face; to avoid it, he focuses on dedicating himself to his people, including only dating Navajo women. When they can't keep from falling for each other, he questions his dating rule. Nevada knows that running away is the only way to save him from being threatened by the cartel, but she can't bring herself to leave his side. Readers will be turning pages to find out whether Joseph breaks through Nevada's defensive snark in time to find love. This fast-paced romance has just enough suspense to give it spice. The finished book will contain an additional novel by Carolyn Brown, not seen by PW.

Laura Drake Rocks Western Romance Again!
I’ve been an avid fan of Laura’s since The Sweet Spot, her Rita Award winning debut novel.
Narrative, setting and character development pull me into her writing ... enough so that I enjoyed my second read of Home at Chestnut Creek even more then I did the first time through. (I wanted to reacquaint myself with the first two books in the series before the third is released later this month.)
Nevada Sweet is tough on the outside, but Laura finds unique ways to make an imperfect heroine just that ... a heroine. Through letters she writes to her dead mother and random kind acts, I learned to love the rebellious, feisty misfit who didn’t feel she had a future until she learned to trust.
Joseph “Fishing Eagle” King struggles with his own past and his perception of what he wants for himself; both of which add twists and speed bumps in development of the romance thread.
When they individually push the other to trust, accept and heal, the heat that’s brewed between them sizzles with the HEA every romance (in literature and in life) deserves.
KUDOS on another well-crafted, compelling read, Laura.
