Hope to Lie

Annie Oakley Barker has an impressive résumé. Citizens on Patrol, fire fighter, graduated with honors, caught a bank robber, saved hikers from drowning, and won a medal. She’s a model cop.
There's just one problem. None of it is true! Yet the bold selfish lies still landed her a job as Chief of Police.
Now she faces the biggest challenge of her life. An abandoned car is found in a snowy field. A house is ransacked. The owner has disappeared. Then a body is found. To solve the case, Annie must finally become the cop she always claimed to be. But she’s in way over her head. And it doesn’t help that she’s incessantly distracted by the secrets and demons that molded her into a liar.
The investigation becomes even more complicated when County Detectives threaten to take over. They immediately begin poking holes in the case. And in her! Even with a day of reckoning looming, Annie refuses to let go of her case. In a desperate attempt to end the investigation quickly, she churns through suspects. But one of them is someone close to her. By choosing to protect that friend from the abyss of a murder charge, Annie steps into unfamiliar territory: an unselfish act. Yet to do that, and to save herself, she must rely on a loyal companion. More lies. And deceptions, and omissions, and other creative solutions.
When a felon is finally cornered, the case ends in a blaze of gunfire. But even after that, it’s not over for her. Because one more disturbing twist still awaits Annie Oakley Barker.
