Ben O’Callahan has a fearsome reputation in BDSM circles as a sadist, an extreme Master who demands everything from his submissives. But Marcie has been in love with him since she was sixteen. As a protective family friend, he’s given her a glimpse of himself he’s never offered another woman. He might think she’s still a child, but she’s twenty-three now. She knows she’s the submissive he truly needs.
To prove it, she’ll do whatever it takes—even if her deepest desire isn’t a hostile takeover of his heart, but an unconditional surrender to it.
At first I thought this might be too far outside of the “contemporary romance” genre for me to enjoy but I was wrong. Joey W. Hill depicts the BDSM lifestyle in realistic terms through fascinating characters of real depth and complexity. Because she so obviously cares about her characters, we as readers do as well. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this novel, and I have re-read it twice. I discovered something new about the characters each time.
While I enjoyed this read, it is not for the faint hearted or for those looking for a “hot" romance novel.
Note: I actually started the Knights of the Boardroom series with this book, and then read the earlier ones not in any specific order. I wish there were more to come.
