In the midst of losing everything…

It is the worst year ever for Cynthia.  Within a span of six months she's lost her beloved townhome, her job as a middle grade schoolteacher, and was betrayed by her longtime partner, whom she believed was destined to be her forever.  Hurt, homeless, and confused, Cynthia retreats to her grandmother's house in a small town somewhere north of Houston, Texas seeking solitude to heal her heart, forget about relationships, and plot her next move in life.  But what she doesn't expect is a knock on her grandmother's door from a man who's come to interrupt her plans.

Following a bitter divorce, life has returned to the mundane for Holiday, who spends his days working to restore homes around town and his evenings at the lake nearby where he sits and reminisce about the daughter he lost to a terrible accident two years ago.  He grieves being part of a family unit, but jumping into another serious relationship is not at the forefront of his mind... until he meets Cynthia.

Under sweltering heat during the last month of summer the two find themselves drawn to each other, burning with a desire that only the other can tame.  But is Cynthia willing to go against her plans and start anew with Holiday in a small town?  Will Holiday be able to convince Cynthia she came into his life to be more than just his summer pastime?
