Take a twisty, dramatic thriller, fill it with raw, realistic characters, and you’ve got House of Sand and Fog. Kathy is a recovering addict whose home has been seized by the county. Lester is the sheriff who helps evict her. And Colonel Behrani is the Iranian refugee who just bought her home for dirt cheap. We were mesmerized by how Andre Dubus III drew us into his three very imperfect characters’ inner lives. He does a great job representing flawed, desperate people making terrible choices—and we appreciated how nobody is either purely good or all bad. The novel’s serpentine plot twists—from extramarital affairs to legal obstacles—bring this tension-filled story to a cataclysmic breaking point. (We highly recommend checking out the movie adaptation once you are done reading.)]

Awesome
This book is often overlooked, however it is a story about love and kidnapping and ultimately murder. I was initially hesitant about it because the beginning is slow but I found the characters
real and I was immediately drawn in by the drama about the house. Also, there is a lot of symbolism in the novel and the ending was great! I originally choose this book because I was reading down the list Oprah gave and was pleasantly surprised
by the content. This is a must read whoever is viewing this author, buy this book, you won't be disappointed. This is one of my favorite novels.
