Now, for the first time, he’s distilled his decades of in-depth research and practical experience into a potential-unlocking guide for everyone.
This exciting book is not a collection of Rotella’s theories; it consists of performance principles that have proven themselves in countless competitive situations, in arenas from which only the strongest minds emerge triumphant. It’s a book full of insights that you can learn and use the next morning—in the office, the classroom, or wherever your quest takes you—told not in abstractions, but through case studies and stories drawn from Rotella’s years teaching sports psychology, counseling athletes, and consulting for Fortune 500 companies. It explores how to keep the mind from holding you back, whatever your physical gifts or other talents. It’s about how to make a commitment, how to persevere, how to deal with failure—and how to train your mind to create a self-image that promotes confidence and accomplishment.
Any successful life starts with how you see yourself. And with these pearls of wisdom from the nation’s preeminent sports psychologist, you can learn to achieve the success of your dreams.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Rotella, former director of sports psychology at the University of Virginia, offers an intriguing and persuasive exploration of the proposition that a champion's thoughts are different from those of most people. He believes that the ideas people choose to have about themselves largely determine their quality of life. Citing examples from various sports basketball star LeBron James, pro golfer Pat Bradley, NASCAR's Richard Petty Rotella reveals the attitudes and habits that he claims will lead to an exceptional career in any field. The goal is to cultivate the "essential qualities" of optimism, confidence, respecting one's own talents, commitment, and perseverance. These qualities, he states, help people to commit, persist, and overcome setbacks. He also examines the importance of self-evaluation, patience, and surrounding yourself with the right people. Though Rotella's primary concern here is with the very successful, "ordinary" people should also find useful tips here for smoothly handling life's challenges and opportunities.
Customer Reviews
Perfect Mindset Developer
Great read about the fundamental principles that set an exceptional person a part from an average person. The only difference is mindset. Developing goals, shattering goals to create dreams and living a life of constant growth is what being a champion is all about. Planting the trees years before eating the fruit. Bob Rotella has a lot of knowledge and accounts from many of the worlds top performers. Definitely a recommended read.
A few good nuggets
He had some good things to say but unless you were a golfer it got boring.
