Hunger Moon Rising is a departure from the authors usual Scifi themed books as it is a story about a wolf shifter. What a great introduction into this new world Evangeline Anderson has created in this urban fantasy/shifter novel that I hope becomes a series. This is a standalone book that is awesome ,exciting, suspenseful, romantic, erotic , well paced page turner.

As far as werewolf shifters Ben is not your usual alpha shifter male trying to claim his mate and run the pack. Actually the unlikely hero is a vegetarian, Buddhist, reporter with a major secret, he happens to be a werewolf. . Having inherited the "virus" from his father Ben detests what he is, he rejects anything to do with shifter capabilities working tirelessly to control all aspects of his life to avoid shifting, especially during the full moons. Raised by his grandfather and his mother,his grandfather has tried to incorporate him into the pack and have him accept his true self. The self loathing Ben will have nothing to do with any packs and what he calls their vulgar behavior and pagan rituals. He believes being a shifter is a curse and longs for a normal existence. For the the last three years Ben has been able to suppress his shifting, but between his very hot lovely writing partner Danielle and the coming of what the pack calls the rare Hunger Moon, he's losing his grip.

From the first moment he was introduced to his writing partner and mentor for the newspaper he is training to be a reporter for,Ben has known Danielle was fated to be his mate, unfortunately he has been placed in the best friend zone for the past five years. He will keep the wolf he shares his body with hidden and a secret as long as possible.

Danielle is a hard working ace reporter who has taken Ben under her wing as a writing partner and best friend. As gorgeous, strong, attentive, gentle and wonderful as Ben is she never considers anything romantic with him or any other men. Having come out of an abusive marriage (both physical and mental) Danielle has buried herself in her work, too traimatized to even consider any romantic relationships. Ben has become her best friend, the calm controlled buddy she also considers her safe harbor, the one man she can trust and rely upon.

Danielle has little knowledge that werewolves or any other paranormal beings exist until one day a frantic man comes to Sind her and claims his daughter was abducted by a werewolf. He begs her to help him find her. First dismissing the man as a bit deranged, Danielle begins to realize there is something strange going on and decides to look into this mystery a bit deeper.

As much as Ben wants to steer Danielle away from this case she is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery with or without him.
Of course when you look for trouble it will find you somehow and Danielle finds herself in great danger, tumbling into a world she thought only existed in fiction books. Shifters are real.

Ben must accept his wolf and call upon his wolf's strength and powers to protect and save the woman he loves.Unable to recognize the suddenly alpha gone wild Ben, will Danielle be able to accept Him for what he is and who she is to him.
