Publisher Description
Imagine the flickering firelight in a prehistoric cave, with the walls covered with an illustrated encyclopedia of Ice Age animals -- some prey, others predators -- imagine your elders telling stories of great hunts, while teaching the skills necessary for daily survival.
Imagine hand shadows from the firelight demonstrating hunting techniques with spear and axe.
Twenty cave wall paintings of amazing Ice Age beasts that existed at the same time as early humans, some as recently as 10,000 years ago. Five foot tall beavers and twenty foot tall camels and many others are beautifully illustrated by Niki Smith. Each animal is also shown in outline to provide a sense of their enormous size.

Science of Art, Art of Science
Having visited the cave paintings in Niaux, France, this summer, I was searching for a resource to use in sharing ancient cave paintings with my third grade students. This lovely book has 20 plates sharing cave art depicting animals of the ice age with brief supporting information about each. It is perfect for my purposes. I can't believe that it is free!
Fun!
I love the textures, and when you click on the animal painting you can see the scale of what each animal was compared to an average human height, very cool!
