Publisher Description

What is Violent Communication?

If "violent" means acting in ways that result in hurt or harm, then much of how we communicate—judging others, bullying, having racial bias, blaming, finger pointing, discriminating, speaking without listening, criticizing others or ourselves, name-calling, reacting when angry, using political rhetoric, being defensive or judging who's "good/bad" or what's "right/wrong" with people—could indeed be called "violent communication."

What is Nonviolent Communication?

Nonviolent Communication is the integration of four things:

• Consciousness: a set of principles that support living a life of compassion, collaboration, courage, and authenticity

• Language: understanding how words contribute to connection or distance

• Communication: knowing how to ask for what we want, how to hear others even in disagreement, and how to move toward solutions that work for all

• Means of influence: sharing "power with others" rather than using "power over others"

Nonviolent Communication serves our desire to do three things:

• Increase our ability to live with choice, meaning, and connection

• Connect empathically with self and others to have more satisfying relationships

• Sharing of resources so everyone is able to benefit

Balaramdas ,

Brilliant

I have always considered myself a sarcastic, sardonic person, a bit of a naysayer and I have always thought it’s just who I am. This book profoundly changed me in a way I was not expecting. I feel lighter and my interactions with people around me have changed significantly since I was even halfway through the book. It has really kickstarted a process of growth and self reflection in me that I never thought would happen, but always secretly wished for, never knowing how or where to start and then thinking “oh that’s dumb. never mind.”

I think this book should be required reading for all humans, and I plan to read it over and over again to really absorb and eventually fully practice its teachings.

I am so grateful for this book, the tools it has introduced me to, and the changes I can already feel taking place in my brain and heart.

Life changing book for relationships

That is a life-changing book and it’s depth is going to take years if not a lifetime to fully assimilate. And yet the impact is almost immediate for good in my life.
