The curated portraits in ICONS were commissioned by Opus to appear in luxury, large format, limited edition tomes. The portraits were taken on the legendary 20x24 Polaroid Land Camera, a camera that embraces a film format that when imagined by Edwin Land drew upon the technological prowess and passion of his engineers.
Polaroid only built five general purpose 20x24 cameras following the successful reception of its large format film in 1977. The beauty and quality of this analogue art form was ground breaking, but it’s true to say it seems even more appreciated in today’s digital age, when film production for this iconic camera has all but ceased.
The photgraphs in ICONS were shot in locations around the world over the course of a decade originally as part of different Opus projects. This is the first time these portraits have been available together and includes many images which have never been published before, it brings together iconic portraits of some of the biggest names in the worlds of sport, entertainment and fashion. The Opus team was granted privileged access for photoshoots at events including the Super Bowl, Paris Fashion Week, the Wimbledon Finals and at private training facilities. The giant camera and its prints created intrigue, excitement and anticipation at every photoshoot. Portaits featured include;
