Desperate to escape a life of poverty on his desolate home planet, Ryck Lysander enlists in the United Federation Marine Corps, hoping to make a better future for himself. However, Ryck soon discovers that the Corps is more than a means of escaping his former life as he is pushed beyond the very limits of his strength and willpower.
From bootcamp brawls to skirmishes with galactic pirates, Ryck's new life presents him with unimaginable adventures and forces him to prove his mettle as he forges his new identity and fights to earn his place as one of the Brotherhood of Marines.
Enjoyed the “realistic” Boot Camp. While only once being a squid, I always appreciated the cohesiveness of the corps.
I’m a woman and not in the military. I do enjoy watching and reading war stories.
Having said that, I can say the writing was well done with a few errors. Most of the errors were just double words.
I got a bit bored with all the descriptions of everything and found myself skipping over large portions of nothing but filler.
The story is about Ryck and spans about 4-5 years from what I can figure out. He joins the military, has a few missions, gets injured and recovers. The end.
Enjoyed the read
