A Darker Shade of Ambra

The secrets of Ambra are hard to protect. The Dragon, who leads the organization, has faked his sister's death to protect them. And now he's calling in all the top agents of Ambra, plus the newly "un-dead" sister Lisa, because the worst has happened. Logan, a trusted Ambra operative, is selling them out. The Dragon sends his minions, two by two, to capture the traitor and save Ambra. Ex-RAF Scottish super-agent Remington is paired with Lisa, and sent to Bucharest to start the hunt. In inimitable Lyn Brittan style, the action is fast and furious, the plot has more twists and turns than a back-country mountain road, the attraction between Lisa and Remington is instantaneous and explosive, and the repartee between the two sparkles with wit and innuendo. Since the traitor is known, the conflict here is not simply Ambra vs. the traitor. Ambra has beconme a house divided, and both Lisa and Remington have side issues which they musty balance against the demands of Ambra's mission. Both take strong moral stands, weighing the relative values of family, friendships, justice, and vengeance; positions which put them at odds with one other and threaten both their mission and their future.
This iteration of the Ambra series differs from previous works, in that the protagonists are both Ambra insiders, both trained and ready to execute all manner of top-secret ops. Gone are the goofball earnestness, the innocence, the pure confidence that comes from knowing the mission is righteous. Ambra's hard times force hard choices, and given the right circumstances, both Remington and Lisa are prepared to kill. The question is, can they do it and still respect each other in the morning? As a veteran Ambra follower, I miss the old days, but this complex and emotionally nuanced tale of betrayal and redemption makes for an absorbing read, and it's impossible not to root for Lisa and Remington to get their HEA, Ambra style.
