When all else fails, try seduction.
Ross Hardt must marry a proper lady in order to reclaim his inheritance. Among the few prospects in town is a beautiful, sassy widow who has tantalized him from the day they first met–the same day she slapped his face.
Susannah Braddock journeyed west in search of a good father for her young son, but on the lawless frontier few candidates meet her requirements, least of all the arrogant, unfeeling railroad agent.
As Fate—and Ross’s scheming—draws them closer, Susannah glimpses unexpected tenderness beneath her suitor’s harsh exterior, and is tempted by the fiery passion that flares between them. But when a secret comes out that threatens to destroy their budding relationship, passion isn’t enough. Only love can weather the oncoming storm.

A Merry Chase!
I'm a big fan of the mail-order bride trope in historical romance and E.E. Burke has quickly become one of my very favorite storytellers of this period because she always does her homework and it shows in the rich historical details she adds to the stories she writes. I love her principled heroes and her more than capable and feisty heroines, though I must say that Ross and Susannah had me muttering under my breath throughout this story. If ever there were two people that were more clueless about the art of communication, Susannah and Ross have yet to meet them! Ross decides it's time to marry and he chooses Susannah and wants her to fall at his feet within days, and Susannah is so busy being the proper lady and overprotective mother that she's incapable of letting down her guard and getting to know the man. These two lead each other on a merry chase that is sometimes maddening but always delightfully entertaining. I read a complimentary copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
