Enjoyed the unique, interesting characters and original story line in this first book of a series new to me. Members of the Harper family were forced to deal with unexpected challenges, conflicts, and choices. This book kept my attention, and the ending makes me anxious to read the next Mt. Hope adventure.
Worth the read
Lovable, vibrant characters! The author addresses real difficulties people face while keeping everything hopeful and upbeat. Will definitely read it again!
Mixed metaphors, shallowly religious
I wanted to like this book, but it was amateurish in its over the top hyperbolised descriptions, including excessive and mixed metaphors. Also relationships lacked nuance and genuine transition. One minute the main character despises her mother, the next she is blowing kisses and kissing her on the cheek. As a mother of teenagers who differ from me in religious belief, I don't buy the conflict between the main character and her children, at least not to the extent presented in book.
Also, the religious undertones are strong, yet shallow.
