Publisher Description

Gideon Quinn has a handful of starbucks, a draco named Elvis, and a target on his back.

Wrongly convicted of treason, Colonel Gideon Quinn has endured six grueling years harvesting crystal under the killing suns of the Morton Barrens, and fully expects to die there. But the former soldier's fate twists when a general of the Colonial Corps offers Gideon his   freedom, and a chance to clear his name.

Seizing the opportunity, Gideon and his pet draco, Elvis, take 'ship to the city of Nike in search of revenge. And justice. But mostly revenge.

What he finds is plucky street-thief, a city steeped in corruption, and a mysterious enemy hell-bent on safeguarding their deadly secrets.

Now Gideon finds himself involved in an entirely different kind of war, one that, if he loses, will shatter the planet's new and fragile peace.

Soldier of Fortune, Book 1 of the Gideon Quinn Adventures, is a future steampunk/ecopunk hybrid set on the engineered planet Fortune, where dracos soar alongside airships and dodgers slip through the rain-slicked streets in search of their next mark. If you like low-tech science fiction, found families, and roller-coaster adventure, you'll love Soldier of Fortune.

King Mel ,

Gritty Protagonist in a Highly Engaging and Entertaining Story

What’s not to like? A principled, but flawed, man seeks justice and vengeance and a love lost to betrayal. Mix in an intelligent reptilian companion, a couple of handfuls of other quirky characters, and a detailed and nuanced world and the result is entertaining mayhem. After completing this book, it occurred to me that it captures a strong dash of the spirit of Fritz Leiber (Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser) - the principled (but not overly so) protagonist prone to impulsiveness, improvisation, and a bit of flair in pursuing (eventually) the desired objective while facilitating a few others along the way.
