What good is a witch with no magic?

I'm Lexi Balefire and I wear a lot of hats, but none of them are tall and pointy. I spend half my time making love matches that last forever, and the other half trying to keep my faerie godmothers from turning each other into toads. Or worse.

I come from a long line of witches, some of them wicked, but none of that will matter if my magic doesn't awaken before midnight on my next birthday. If I miss that deadline, I'll never be a true witch.

If my mother and grandmotherhadn't used their magic to kill each other, one of them might have been able to give me the keys to the mystery and I'd be one step closer to claiming my Fate Weaver heritage.

Now, I guess I'll have to figure it out on my own.

Super Cute Story!!

It’s a great read with a good story attached to a new plot! Love it!

A well written brew

Sincerity, sarcasm, petty squabbling, working together, love & hate - I fine blend of uplifting epic struggle heavily seasoned with mundane calamity.

A Match Made in Spell

This book is a piece of fluff that would be better off if it embraced the young adult genre. It’s well-written in that it flows well, has good word choice, and is imaginative, with only a few out of place words that would benefit from more proofreading. However, the story and characters are fairly flat, since the author doesn’t really take the time to develop feeling or depth, and there’s at least one plot hole. I also never buy into the “love in 2 weeks” narrative.

The story seems to pass over events as they happen until they become relevant again, which results in Lexi taking far too long to pick things up given the predictable plot. Lexi seems like a sympathetic character at first, but it doesn’t take long to realize she’s simply an extremely privileged, self-centered, snarky brat. When she makes mistakes, there aren’t any real consequences. The one time something’s actually at stake, the problem is quickly resolved as Athena simply gives her the solution. When she says she’ll apologize to Flix and Terra, she never does. She never demonstrates any real character development.
