How God Makes Us Willing To Do His Good Pleasure

“Let’s turn to Philippians 2:13 for an introductory verse that I believe will explain what I have on my heart. “It is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” This afternoon I would like to speak about the work of God in our souls that makes us willing to do His good pleasure. I don’t want to speak of the specifics of God’s will—I’ve done that at other times—but rather, how God produces willingness in His people.

It should be obvious to all here that God wants us to do His will. Our problem is that we have the flesh in us that wants to do its own will. These two things are opposed to each other and this leads to a conflict of wills. I believe that this struggle is more or less in the life of every young Christian. I think you know what I mean; we all have our ambitions, our interests, and goals in life, and we don’t want anything or anyone to upset those plans. An impasse between God’s will and ours’s can result and this will halt spiritual progress in our lives[…]”
