Slow, dark burn
This book contains characters with a lot of internal turmoil, making them tend toward self-punishment. However, the story didn’t cross over into being so dark that it was grueling to read. In fact, the match of wills between the characters was an enjoyable tension. And, ultimately, this was a story of self-redemption. Each character had to do his or her own clearing of baggage, to be fully ready to give and receive love.
Emotional
Luke had his demons to live with. Agathe had her own demons to face. When they met the chemistry was unmistakable but their union perhaps a mistake. This was an emotional love story with much heartache and the search of survival in a seemingly hopeless life. Good read.

My heart
Losing a child is my worst fear. This book brought our emotions I pray I will never have to face. This was well written, and I couldn’t put it down.
