He's her grumpy boss. She's his nemesis. How thin is the line between love/hate?
Entrepreneur Ryan Michaels never loses. Well, except that time, a few years ago when he lost a promotion to spoiled rich girl, Charlotte "Charlie" Ray. Now he's forced to hire his nemesis to secure funding to develop a string of luxury boutique hotels. Not only does she not fit his corporate vision, but she's too damn attractive for her own good. And his.
Working as VP of Sales and Marketing for a luxury hotel is Charlie's dream job. Too bad her boss is Ryan Michaels, the same pompous stick-in-the-mud that she remembers. If he tells her that this project is his legacy one more time, she might scream. Or maybe kissing him will get him to shut up?
Because that's the other thing. The sizzling attraction between Ryan and Charlie is impossible to ignore. But everyone knows not to mix business and pleasure. Don't they?

***Hotel King is the first book in award-winning and USA Today bestselling author Claire Marti's new spin off contemporary romance series, California Suits. The series follows the adventures of five best friends who are opening a string of luxury boutique hotels from La Jolla to Monterey to Beverly Hills as each one finds true love…usually where he least expects it. Each book is a standalone.
I see the start to a great series!
I see the potential for another really good series from this author! Charlie and Ryan were one coworkers and competitors, so it’s difficult for Charlie to trust that he truly wants her to help with the finishing touches on his dream. But she has to admit that he does have a spectacular plan, if not always the best method for execution. As for Ryan, he can’t get past his hostility toward a situation he got himself into at first, so he runs hot and cold and makes Charlie’s head spin. And just when it seems like all is too good to be true, reality comes crashing in like the Kool-Aid man to provide the misery Charlie was hoping would stay away for once. Can Ryan win her back, or is it too little too late with the sting of duplicity sprinkled on top?
I really liked the “there’s a secret and it’s going to be ugly when it comes out” vibe that the author gave this book. Along with the excellent character development, some catching up with Ryan’s family from the previous series, and the very real dilemma Ryan and Charlie face when it all comes crashing down, this made for a story that I didn’t want to walk away from. I’ll be interested to see how the author does with the next book, because I see some trouble brewing with one of the partners and a little sister.
I love happy endings, and this was just that. As rivals and very competitive, the two main characters were mostly at each other’s throats. But as the story continued, they could not keep their emotions in tact. They very much got involved and with 4 other owners of the dream company that had been created got suspicious, it became harder for them. as the ending got closer, they decided that being together, was important to both, they mended their differences and love prevailed. Such a good ending. Thant U so much.
