Alfred Augustus Grace (1867-1942) was a New Zealander writer and journalist. He travelled to England in 1875 with his parents and studied at St John's College, Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, on a scholarship. In 1887 he returned to New Zealand, took up residence in Nelson and began to write. He published articles and short stories for Australasian periodicals, including The Bulletin, The Triad and The New Zealand Illustrated Magazine. He published several collections of short stories, such as Maoriland Stories (1895), Tales of a Dying Race (1901) and Hone Tiki Dialogues (1910). His other works include: New Zealand in the Next Great War: A Note of Warning (1894), Folk-Tales of the Maori (1907), The Tale of Timber Town (1914) and The Maungatapu Mountain Murders (1924).
