Publisher Description

This book is an introduction to Max Weber’s ambitious comparative study of the sociological and institutional foundations of the modern economic and social order.

In this work originally published in German in 1920, Weber discusses the analytical methods of sociology and, at the same time, presents a devastating critique of prevailing sociological theory and of its universalist, determinist underpinnings. None of Weber’s other writings offers the reader such a grasp of his theories; none displays so clearly his erudition, the scope of his interests, and his analytical powers.

Terrible

The author of this book clearly gave little thought to Webers actual theory's. The entire book is a nonstop condescending interpretation of Webers true thoughts and ideas. Literally you can't read one sentence in the book without some sort of critical review on the idea. Perhaps a better title and description would be a ungrateful review of the Idiot Weber and the all knowing expert, me, your author. Another complaint I would have is the unnecessary mannerisms and over the top writing style present throughout the entire book. I enjoy a well articulated thought as much as the next guy, but I get the sense when reading this that who ever was the facilitator in attempting to put Weber's thoughts on paper had something to prove. I could honestly go on all day on how terrible I find this portrayal of Webers theory's, however I am going to try my luck at finding the original thoughts of Weber not some critic with a chip on his shoulder.
