Publisher Description
Since its original publication in Paris in 1959, Naked Lunch has become one of the most important novels of the twentieth century. Exerting its influence on the relationship of art and obscenity, it is one of the books that redefined not just literature but American culture. For the Burroughs enthusiast and the neophyte, this volume—that contains final-draft typescripts, numerous unpublished contemporaneous writings by Burroughs, his own later introductions to the book, and his essay on psychoactive drugs—is a valuable and fresh experience of a novel that has lost none of its relevance or satirical bite.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
William S. Burroughs's classic tale has been fully restored by his longtime editors, Grauerholz and Miles, and is invigorated by this enthusiastic reading. Mark Bramhall offers a professional performance peppered with every trick of the actor's trade to make it a resonating effort. He approaches the work with such energy that the story seems like a new entity, freshly relevant and timely. Listeners will lose themselves in the journey of junkie William Lee as he makes his way from bizarre destination to even more bizarre destination in this unforgettable novel. A Grove paperback.
Customer Reviews
A true American classic
I’m not gonna go into any deep analysis here, I just feel I need to post something on account of that “horrible“ review. This book is poetry and it is art in its purest form. It was definitely not made for squares and people with no life experience.
Horrible
This is quite possibly the worst book that I’ve ever read. If you do read it, do yourself a favor and skip to the last chapter. You won’t have missed anything.
