Publisher Description
In the midst of the 19th century, a nostalgic interest in old Christmas traditions swept through the Victorian England after the publication of Davies Gilbert's 'Some Ancient Christmas Carols' (1822) hit the bookshelves. That interest was further stimulated by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's German-born husband, who initiated the German Christmas tree into Britain after their marriage in 1841, the first Christmas card in 1843, and a revival in carol singing.
In October 1843 Charles Dickens wrote the manuscript of 'A Christmas Carol' - originally as a quick work for the approaching christmas season, but it soon became the greatest Christmas story of all English history.
